Cerebral palsy is a childhood disorder caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, which usually occurs before birth, at birth, or in early childhood. Cerebral palsy affects muscle movement and coordination and, in many cases, the ability to see, hear, and feel. Its common symptoms are more flexibility in the limbs and trunk than normal, abnormal body postures, involuntary movements, problem in walking, stiffness in muscles and less movement of body joints than normal.
Spastic Center (Ashaye, Bal Bhavan) in Kanpur, mainly for children affected by Cerebral Palsy, was started in the year 1990, which was the first center of its kind in Uttar Pradesh. America and IICP Due to the continuous efforts and cooperation of specially trained doctors and teachers from Kolkata, currently 2 such centers are being operated successfully.
While discharging their responsibility of “अपंगता सुधार – समुचित उपचार”, Mumbai’s well-known pediatric orthopedic surgeons Dr. Taral Nagda and Dr. Jaideep Dhamele along with senior orthopedic surgeon from Kanpur, Dr. Sanjay Rastogi, Dr. Saurabh Chawla (Orthopedic Specialist, Kanpur) Medical Center and senior pediatrician Dr. Sunil Taneja in collaboration with Rotary Club Kanpur West organize check-up and operation camp for the treatment of children affected by cerebral palsy at Spastic Center (Aashayan-Bal Bhavan), Phoolbagh. Under the “Niramaya” scheme of the Government of India, surgery for children registered in this camp will be done free of cost.
The organization has been organizing such camps since the year 2019, which was interrupted for some time due to Corona, but after Corona, successful camps are being organized regularly from time to time. Hopes – Last year also in 2022, Bal Bhavan and Kanpur Medical Center conducted 5 operations in the month of April, 6 operations in October 2022, and after examining 15 children in February 2023, 10 children were identified and operated on successfully.
